7 Basketball Shooting Drills You Can Do at Home

No court? No problem. Seven shooting drills you can do in a driveway, garage or bedroom to build form, balance and a smooth release.

You do not need a full court to improve your shot. These seven drills work in a driveway, garage or even a bedroom.

1. Lying backspin drill

Lie on your back and shoot the ball straight up with a full wrist snap. Goal: perfect backspin. 3 sets of 15.

2. Wall-sit holds

3 x 30 seconds. Builds the leg strength behind your jump shot.

3. One-hand form shooting

Kneel or stand close to the rim (or a wall target). Shoot with only your shooting hand and a straight elbow. 3 x 15.

4. Towel drill

Hold a rolled towel under your shooting armpit to keep the elbow tucked while you shoot form shots.

5. Stationary ball-handling and shot-prep

Dribble twice, then rise into a shooting pocket. 20 reps with perfect footwork.

6. Mirror form check

Stand sideways to a mirror and go through your shot slowly with no ball. Check elbow, wrist and follow-through.

7. Film-and-review

Film 5 shots from the side. Watch them in slow motion and write down one thing to fix.

A simple weekly plan

Day Focus
Mon Drills 1, 3
Tue Drills 2, 6
Wed Rest or film review
Thu Drills 4, 5
Fri Drill 7, then compare to last week

Put numbers on it

HoopArea scores each filmed shot out of 10 and tracks progress over time, so you know whether your at-home work is paying off.
